Cosmetic Dentistry 101: Where To Start With Your Smile

Babineau Blog May

Many of the patients we see want to improve their smiles but aren’t sure where to start. Cosmetic dentistry improves the appearance of teeth by refining a patient’s smile while also supporting their oral health. With our expertise and years of experience in cosmetic dentistry, we help patients understand their options and choose treatments that will deliver the results they desire.

Cosmetic Dentistry: A Broad Range of Treatment Options

The field of cosmetic dentistry encompasses a variety of treatments. Some of the most popular include:

Teeth Whitening

If teeth are stained, whitening is usually the starting point for most patients. Professional whitening removes discoloration caused by coffee, tea, wine, medicines, and aging. Our whitening treatments are more effective and longer-lasting than over-the-counter products. For many patients, professional whitening is their first experience with cosmetic dentistry.

Dental Bonding

Bonding is ideal for chips, gaps, and uneven edges and can quickly restore a tooth’s appearance and function. A tooth-colored material is shaped and polished to match the tooth enamel, providing a natural look and a smooth, comfortable feel. The results are immediate. Bonding can improve a patient’s smile in a single appointment, with very little preparation and typically no downtime.

Veneers

Veneers cover the front surface of teeth to improve shape, color, and alignment, usually when a patient wants a more comprehensive change. With veneers, we can hide discoloration, gaps, uneven edges, and oddly shaped teeth to create a balanced smile that’s flawless yet natural looking. Veneers are stain resistant and can stay beautiful and luminous for 10 years or longer with proper care and regular checkups.

Clear Aligners

If straight teeth are the goal, we usually recommend orthodontic treatment with clear aligners. Nearly invisible and removable, clear aligners are a great alternative to conventional braces for many patients who need minor to moderate alignment or bite correction. And because they’re removable, patients can still enjoy meals and maintain a normal oral hygiene routine. Clear aligners are a flexible solution that suits teens and adults.

Crowns & Other Restorations

Sometimes cosmetic dentistry overlaps with restorative care. Crowns, for example, are used to strengthen damaged teeth and improve their appearance. A crown covers the entire tooth, restoring its shape, size, and function. When a tooth needs support and a cosmetic upgrade, a crown is often the best choice, reminding us that a healthy smile and a beautiful smile go hand in hand.

Finding What Works

Cosmetic dentistry isn’t one-size-fits-all. What works for one patient may not suit another, and that’s why we’re here. We’re ready and eager to discuss a patient’s concerns and discover their smile goals. If you’re ready to have a conversation about cosmetic dentistry, call to schedule an appointment at Shoal Creek Smile Studio, located in Austin, TX.
